And…. the March belated photos. Daddy was working so hard that Mommy and Beau decided to go visit family in Iowa and Missouri… it was perfect timing as they were able to go to Aunt Cindy’s wedding. Beau turned 6 months in March… and sitting up on his own was a big new thing.

Since I’ve waited so long to put up these videos, I’m just putting them all into one blog post. Of course, there is some extra text describing them at vimeo.com… but the video is what’s important. 🙂
And so… we post again VERY belated photos of our adorable son, Beaumin. 🙂

It’s not always easy deciding how to organize the photos… so this time we’re going with something easy, organize by month. 🙂

Here’s Beaumin at 4 months old playing in Stephanie’s Johnny Jumpup (from when she was a baby)! This is more entertaining than the first attempt, where he was confused and kinda just sat there. 🙂
Another fun video of Beaumin “Talking” 🙂
We know he rolled over a few times before this, but this was the first time we got to see it!
After we spent half our time in Des Moines, we dove east to Iowa City to spend time with the Sherman family. That was fun because Great-Grandparents, Aunts, Cousins, and friends all came to visit. All in all, Beaumin did really well on the whole Christmas vacation, except that he didn’t seem to like sleeping away from home. We aren’t sure if that’s because he seemed to be teething at that time, or what. One important thing, no one else got the flu. 🙂

Once we finally made it to Iowa, it was time to hang out with the Duhn family for Christmas in Des Moines! We had a great time, except when Daddy got the 24-hour flu and was in bed from late Christmas Eve through the morning of the day after Christmas. Everyone was a good sport, though, and we had Christmas a day late, when Daddy felt MUCH better.

Mommy and Daddy have been somewhat delinquent in putting up photos of the last few months… So, finally here are some new goodies!
December was rather exciting as Beaumin continued to grow more interactive, developing his personality, strength and motor skills. Also, he got to see his first snowfall, in Portland of all places! We got dumped on enough that we had to spend a night in the Portland airport, then another night in the Chicago airport due to missing our connecting flight.
Beaumin was a real trooper though! He handled the airports and airplanes better than Stephanie and I. We were exausted, he was just happy as a clam to be held 24×7 for a couple of days.

This has a special story because it’s daddy’s outfit from 30 years ago that grammy saved for Beaumin.
Steph got this video of Beau one of the first times that he was NOT screaming when on his tummy. 🙂 GO BEAU!
He is not always a fan, but Beau is getting much better at tummy time. It’s so amazing to watch him get stronger and stronger. He’s even starting to enjoy being on his tummy, or so we think. (more…)

In general, Beaumin is a happy baby. Of course he has his moments of fussiness (don’t we all), but he’s usually good-natured. He’s definitely developing his personality and what a joy to watch! We’ve captured several happy moments. (more…)

It’s always fun to talk with our little boy, especially when he laughs and talks to us, too!
It’s so much fun to watch Beaumin grow, and start enjoying his environment.
One thing we’re often asked is “where did you come up with Beaumin’s name?” or… some other similar question. Here I will tell the tale. 🙂
First, you must understand that my grandfather, my father, and I all have the same initials, B G S. So, of course, I wanted to carry on this tradition. In fact, I’m pretty sure I told Stephanie about that before we were even married. Anyway, choosing a name is never easy, but it’s all the more difficult when you have only B-first names and G-middle names to choose from.
We looked at all the baby books, name lists, and every source we could think of. On occasion we thought we’d found a first name we liked, but it never really seemed right. Middle names were a bit easier, so we did have a few of those we liked, but the actual middle name would depend on the first name, of course.
Near the end of the pregnancy, we were starting to feel desperate to choose a name. Stephanie pulled out a list she’d written down several months prior. Among the names on the list was “Beaumin.” We talked about it, sounded it out, played with combinations, and suddenly decided it was the right name. But where did it come from? Turns out, Stephanie knew I (and my family) liked the idea of the name “Beau,” and she’d just been playing with the name and came up with “Beaumin.”
After deciding that we really liked this name, I started doing more research and discovered that Beaumin is actually a real French name, most often found as a surname.
One website in particular had a pretty good description of the name:
Origines du Nom : Beaumin
Le Nom Est Porté Dans Le Finistère. On Le Rencontre Comme Toponyme à Plédéliac (22), Où Un Lieu-dit S’appelle L’Allée Des Beaumains. Sens Incertain, Mais On Peut Penser à L’adjectif ‘beau’ Précédant Le Nom De Personne D’origine Germanique Main, Min (racine Magin = Force, Puissance). Reste à Savoir Si L’origine Géographique Du Nom Est Bien Bretonne, Car Il Est Tentant De Faire Le Rapprochement Avec Balmain (voir Ce Nom).

My friend Kathleen was gracious enough to provide a solid translation of the text, since my French is very, very rusty:
Origins of the Name: Beaumin
The name is from Finistère (a region in Brittany). One comes across it as a toponym in Piedeliac or a place-name called Alley of Beaumains. Meaning uncertain, but one might think it’s the adjective “beau” (beautiful) preceding the personal name of Germanic origin Main, Min (root Magin = force, power). It remains to be seen if the geographic origin of the name is truly Breton, because it is tempting to make a connection with Balmain (see this name).
So, there you have it! The origins of Beaumin’s name!
For the record, we like the idea of saying his name means “handsome and powerful,” but a more literal look at his name means “beautiful hands” and has ties to Arthurian legend. No matter your take, we’re proud of the name and our son!
Our cute boy, talking it up at 4 weeks of age.
At about 3 weeks old, Aunt Abby, Aunt Hilah and Cousin Nile came to visit. We had lots of fun going all over the place, and just hanging out at home.

After Grammy and Grandpa’s visit, my aunts Hilah and Abby came to visit with cousin Nile. But first, we had a few days to ourselves.

I’m a popular baby. Only a day after my Papa D and Grandma left, my Grandpa and Grammy came to visit! We saw the Rose Gardens, Multnomah Falls, and went to Cannon Beach! It wore me out!

It’s my pleasure to announce that my son, Beaumin Gabriel has arrived!
He was born on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 9:03 AM PDT. He weighed 9 pounds 10 ounces and was 21 inches in length.
Mommy was amazing and had him naturally, as we’d planned and hoped to do, no drugs.
